It is unfortunately late in the season when Barcus manages to get his gift to Tess, primarily because he's hand-made all his gifts for all of his friends, and that means it's impossible to get them all ready at the same time. He's been having an awful lot of fun making them, though!
The present arrives at her door, in a basket, with a note attached:
Dear Tess,
The conversation when we met was one of the first I had in this place, and it is still a pleasant surprise how much we have in common for two very different people from two very different worlds. I hope we will continue to surprise one another in the year to come.
The objects within are a token, but I hope you will find them useful. There are six flares and two silence-bombs. All can be used underwater, though the bombs are a little finicky when the fuse can't be lit conventionally. You'll have to pull the fuse forcefully free, shake them to mix the contents, then throw or drop to break the shell. Of course, if you use them on land, you can just set the fuse ablaze as you normally would with a bomb.
The oyster knife is self-explanatory, I think! Probably better used on fresh shellfish than enemies due to the size of the blade. But maybe your enemies are sometimes oysters, who am I to judge?
[She hadn't even thought of gifts herself, for which she felt a little bad. She'd definitely have to get him something a little later. Her reply, however, came in a day or two on a handwritten note. The penmanship wasn't outstanding, but it was hard to write really clearly with dendrites in the skin like hers.]
These are really nice. You wouldn't believe how many times I've actually had to fight a giant oyster in my life. Ok, it's only three times, but the fact that it's more than one is still something. Still, it's a very thoughtful gift, and the bombs will see use, no question.
Best wishes in the season. You've been a very interesting person to know and I hope to get to know you better. Sorry. I wasn't sure if there was a gift-giving tradition around here, so I will have to get you something later.

(OOC: And I even remembered to disable the reply screening on my inbox finally, haha.)
