History:
The costumed vigilante known to the public as “Thresher” was brought to the doorstep of Michael and Amber Donaldson as an infant, and was given the name Tess Marie Donaldson. Michael was the attendant of a lighthouse along the coast of South Carolina and the two were devout, lifelong worshipers of the Greek gods who maintained the 'old ways.' Infertile, he had never expected to have a child of his own when a strange, bearded and swarthy man appeared in the dead of night one evening. Welcoming him into their home according to the traditions of hospitality, the man viewed them with kindness and left them with a blessing, a child that they were to raise as their own. They were warned strictly not to speak of her heritage, for great things would be expected of her and many might seek to threaten her in her childhood. Only the strange birthmarks of tridents on the back of her hands and her unnatural, inhuman skin made it clear who her father truly was. Poseidon, satisfied that they would care for the latest of his many children, departed that night into the gloom of a stormy sea.

Tess is the estranged child of the god Poseidon and a particularly impressive mako shark. She was raised from her childhood by the Donaldsons and never knew any other family but them for most of her adult life. They lived in a world where the superhuman was known, if not exactly commonplace. Costumed individuals, collectively known by the population as “Deviants,” would engage in various fights to either hatch nefarious plans for personal gain and ambition, or rise up to thwart those plans. So, for Tess to be born with shark-like skin, fangs and inky black eyes was more of a 'quirk of nature' than it was something to be abjectly feared. The people of her small community did not hate her, though she never showed any interest in taking her prodigious strength and wielding it in defense against global threats. The invasion of the alien armies of Psi-Void, the Freedom War and rise of the Dark Legion and the threats they meant to all life on Earth were not enough to cause her to leave her hometown, or the side of her parents. All of this changed with the rise of Omega...

The demon Omega, in 2013, a being of immeasurable age from a forgotten era of history, was imprisoned in the depths of a dimensional rift known by many as Hell. When released by the actions of the Dark Legion under the guidance of the super-villain Syndrome, he rose and empowered countless individuals with greater potency, causing them to be a threat to all life and resulting in a deranged and violent state where they were submissive to Omega's will. Before his ultimate defeat by the heroes of a rival organization, the Thunder Force, he empowered Poseidon's wife Amphitrite during a rare moment of jealousy when she learned of the presence of yet another child of her husband out of wedlock. In a moment of weakness, she released a plague of influenza in a storm on Tess' home, causing the death of her human parents. Amphitrite subsequently fled the presence of Poseidon in his wrath and sought the companionship of Dionysius, God of Wine in the midst of her madness, something Poseidon's old rival was all too willing to let continue and even prolongue through his wiles.

His hand forced, Poseidon sought his daughter out while she still grieved the death of her loved ones and most that she had ever known. Her told her of her divine heritage, and the duty that the children of Olympus had to protect the mortals of the world, before commanding her to go out and find Amphitrite, to return her home. He did not tell her that his wife was the cause of the influenza that led to her parents' death, but nevertheless her reaction to his arrival was less than cordial. She railed and screamed at her biological father, being well aware of the numerous indiscretions of the Greek Gods and seeing, in that moment, that his irresponsibility for all her life had likely left her parents and her town vulnerable. Nevertheless, she agreed to rescue her step-mother for no other reason than because (in her mind) she was an innocent and potentially in danger. She hunted down Dionysius and his ally, the demigod Pan and, after a violent and life-threatening encounter with the latter, she managed to rescue her inebriated mother and returned her to Poseidon, who revealed that the release of Omega was the source of much of the ill that was present in Tess' life. From that point on, though she showed little love for Poseidon or any of the many tasks he had for her (which she collectively referred to as “Cleaning up my father's messes”), she swore herself the enemy of Omega's cult and the defender of humans who, frequently, saw yet another super-powered vigilante as at best a necessary irritant in a world still rocked by recovery from Omega's conflict.

The next several years were spent in countless battles against agents of the Cult of Omega, ever searching for the leadership of the heirarchy. Tess refused to join any larger teams, wanting none of the fame or attention they provided. She held down odd jobs and hunted the Cult relentlessly in the shadows, facing down they and agents of the criminal organization ARES wherever possible, while avoiding collateral damage or broader attention on her activities. As her world was rocked by Time-Space shockwaves known as the 'Genocide Wave,' which would cause people to disappear randomly every year without warning, it was increasingly clear that the rift of Omega's opening, that the actions of the galactic warlord Psi-Void had damaged the very fabric of reality itself, a wound that would need to be cleansed before reality literally ripped itself apart. However, because of her fierce refusal to join the greater organizations of the world, it would not be her fate to face down these threats. When the greatest incident of the Genocide War to date struck Earth in 2017, she was transported from her world into another, far away from her father's influence...

But once a hero, always a hero.

Personality:
Tess is not an overtly rude person, but she is rough around the edges, to say the least. She is accustomed to the fact that people cannot touch her without it feeling like they're raking their hands across sandpaper. This, along with her carnivorous and disturbing countenance with inky-black eyes, razor-sharp shark-teeth, and incredible strength and stamina, not to mention the gills along her neck, do not exactly make it easy for people to treat her like a normal person. While 'deviants' (Meta-humans) are well known in her world, they are nevertheless terrifying things to normal people, and she is a violent-looking, 4'10” ball of fury whose smiles look like they are on the edge of an act of violence. She's used to people not knowing how to handle her, being likely to view her as a monster or a villain, and while she would never stoop to actually being what she considers to be a monster and holds up the values of hospitality, honest work and bravery instilled by her adopted parents, she knows that friends are for other people. So, she keeps up a gruff exterior when people try to get close to her. She has lost the few people who loved her in return, and the kinds of fights she gets into would usually kill normal mortals, so it can be dangerous to be close to her.

Despite her tendency to grumble, grouse and complain, she is a hard-working and fearless person, with a knack for butting her nose in when she thinks someone is in danger, and especially when their freedoms are threatened. Yet, if she finds that she has been manipulated or abused, her trust used to harm others, she can be swift to leave the perpetrator high and dry, to face the consequences of their actions as she returns the slight. The children of Olympus are ever known as the sort to remember a grudge, after all, and she is more like her father than she would first admit.

She prefers to remain active. Give her a job involving manual labor that will keep her busy all day, and she will be happy as a clam. The more she exerts herself for hours at a time, the more it silences the worries, the self-doubt, the survivor's guilt and the self-loathing body consciousness that plagues her, the anger and bitterness she feels towards her biological father and the manipulations he wrought in her life. She never wants to 'be a hero,' and considers the whole practice of costumed vigilantes to be self-centered and ego-driven, more likely to cause harm than good. The irony that she spent the last three years doing exactly that out of vengeance against the Cult of Omega is not lost on her.

Despite the self-loathing that she struggles with, there are times where Tess finds herself more easily at peace. When surrounded by the inhuman, she does not feel like she stands out and she gravitates to situations where she can pose as if everything were normal, such as an anime conventions (where she tends to be assumed to be cosplaying as a minor villain from a popular cartoon who was also a shark-person). She is less restless in dark, smokey places like bars, where she can relax with a drink or two and play the guitar, her hoodie up to conceal some of her features. Where she feels 'just like one of the crowd,' she relaxes and is at ease. Her guttural, crude sense of humor comes out and she becomes more willing to open up towards others.

She is not a romantic, but rather a deeply pragmatic person. By all accounts, she is close to Aro-Ace, having very little in the way of romantic, much less physical attraction to humans. She prefers to find people who she can trust, who can keep up with her in a fight, and who are honest, brave, curious and adventurous, who don't seek to gain for themselves, but simply do something because it's the right thing to do.

Powers and abilities:
-Incredible strength (capable of lifting roughly a ton)
-Slow, Low-grade regeneration (Highly advanced recuperative abilities over a human, and capable of recovering from near fatal wounds, albeit slowly and over days or weeks. Can regenerate limbs.)
-Durable (Can endure small-arms fire and the like with little more than bruising.)
-Can see in the dark and has a pronounced sense of smell, especially underwater.
-Can breathe underwater via gills that close on land.
-Swims with incredible ease underwater at above an olympian's level of skill.
-Can speak with and understand sharks along with commanding them.
-Hydrokinesis, the ability to manipulate water in all forms.
